New York Fashion Week S/S 2011 midweek recap.

So its in the midst of New York Fashion Week hence my lack of updates. So i'll give you a taste of what has been going on in this mundane city supposedly known as the fashion capital of the US. Quite frankly I'm a bit bored. Here are some looks from some of the shows I had the benefit of capturing.

The above images are from Thakoon, for those of you non fashion obsessed he had a cameo in The September Issue and is a favorite with both Ms.Wintour and Mrs Obama. His aesthetic is a twist on classic american sportswear. And didn't disappoint us this season with just that. There were shirt dresses, eyelets, cut out sides and lots of white with a touch of shimmer.

The above images are from the DVF show, Diane has replaced Nathan Jenden as creative director and instilled  Yvan Mispelaere. It was an exciting show for me because Diane has a certain style, you know those wrap dresses and is never afraid of mixing prints. From the orange and white dress that overlapped orange stripes and orange cheetah prints. And tons of bright SOLID colors we don't usually see much solids from her but it was done so refined from that  burnt orange power suit on Arlenis above with a bit looser fit and stopping them right above the ankle paired with the sexy silk blouse and that neon pink lip. To all the built in hoods on dresses, with the vintage Lennon circular sunglasses. It was a well put together sophisticated collection with just the right amount of youth to not pigeon hole her clientele, smart cookie that Diane.

The  above are from Cathrine Malandrino, she showcased outside by the pond in Lincoln Center. There was this gorgeous purple jumpsuit with a lighter purple knit vest over it a definite stand out look. There were tons of gladiator sandals which I am over seeing, along with big brim hats. her trousers went into this whole harem thing which is always nice to see but I was exceptionally happy to see her kind of translate it into shorts. The orange dress above was one of my favorites the mix of solid and the print is perfectly done. I would have loved to have seen more heels, it made the whole collection just seem as tho it was daytime with all the sandals. Whats the matter Cathrine your girls don't go out and get wasted?Well if you're me you get wasted in the daytime with sandals and all.

The images above are at Peter Som he opened with that purple patterned fabric and did three different takes on it as a dress which was very mod cut with a collard bright orange shirt under it, and also in a pant but my favorite was the one above as a sexy two piece suit paired with an impeccable grey leather. There was this look which had a high waist on  patterned silk shorts, paired with a cardigan that was a more shorter sleeve. The yellow organza dress above is way more beautiful than that picture, the whole bottom hemline is made of yellow bead work and the muted blue belt goes well. The model wearing it has a great look, she's new haven't seen her on the runways before but she has been on very many this week thus far . He also sent out this great collard pink silk mini paired with a sleeveless black wool coat. Closing the show with a white shirt dress with three quater sleeves with sheer stripes. Peter makes clothes for that girl that likes to have fun with color.

Preen have always been known for great tailoring with a modern surprise, as soon as a dress or a top came out I would admire how well done it was then the model would turn and bam, a cut out,a razor back or just something unexpected. There was this black LBD with these amazing white detailing on the front and the back was a razor back adding a little day time to your cocktail dress. They showed very strong suits, I was very delighted at the length in arms for them and the thin skinny belts over the blazers the direct photo above was my favorite look. Its a power skirt suit with no sleeves its a dream come true. Who wants to wear sleeves in spring/summer?

WTH was Richie Rich thinking when he showed what he showed, this is how it starts. Late of course with ballerinas, and a violinist and DJ duet. Then Tinsley Mortimer opens the show in that hideous dress with that giant bow on the front. The models couldn't walk and most of them looked like regular people. Uhm fashion isn't for regular people and the runway is not a place for them. There was also Rupaul's Drag race alum Jujubee as a model and tons of guys in pink jock straps just way too much. There would be a simple cute dress coming down and then the model turns around and theres this tier of ruffles just  going down the middle of the back, the best part of the show was the nude colored dress above with the paint splatter and  a giant neon yellow exposed zipper in the back, oh yea and  Ellen's mini straw hat. We've already seen this and it was fun when Heatherette started in the early millennium but now that Heatherette is no more, and he has started Popluxe can we see something a bit more grown up and not so much of a kid spray painting their t-shirts. I will update on the rest of the week if New York Fashion Week permits me.-your Dealer
